Purfleet Centre Regeneration

The masterplan re-imagines Purfleet through the development of a vibrant and creative town centre, an active river frontage, neighbourhoods with identifiable character that reflect the sites of strong heritage and an extensive and integrated open space network.

A number of site wide strategies were developed, focusing on aspects such as circulation, play, character, blue infrastructure. The masterplanning process also called for a specific, sensitive assessment of the sites ecology. In collaboration and consultation with Buglife and RSPB, an ecological strategy was developed that not only meets mitigation requirements, but draws on the sites historic and proximate ecological context to create a rich, biodiverse green infrastructure throughout the site.

The planning submission included varying levels of detail, including a site wide Outline Planning Application, Sub-framework application for Phase 1 and a Detailed Planning Application for the first site within Phase 1 to come forward. ExA have subsequently received planning permission for the Reserved Matters Application for Phase 1A. The hierarchy of these applications ensured robust site wide strategies were developed that allow for a successful detailed resolution of the overarching themes of the masterplan at an intimate scale.
