Water features and carefully selected horticulture produces an intimate and tranquil setting that caters to the sites use as a place for memorial and reflection.
Trent Valley Crematorium
Derby
Situated on a rural site south of Derby, the scheme looks to introduce a new contemporary building set within a memorial landscape park. The Crematorium is connected to Derby Road via a tree-lined avenue, providing a processional entrance sequence.
Through careful consideration, nature is used to encourage natural movement and process, with parking area visitors having to walk across bridges over shallow water features to an extended building canopy. Upon arrival in the Chapel, a carefully constructed view is framed toward a sculptural feature located at the end of a gently rising landform beyond. These features combine to create an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity, catering to the uses of the site as a place for memorial and reflection.
